Life Story

Zakaria Khial was a 17-year-old Baluch teenager from Zahedan who embodied the hopes of his marginalized community. Despite limited educational opportunities in his region, he was a dedicated student who tutored younger children in his neighborhood for free. He dreamed of breaking the cycle of poverty and discrimination that plagued the Baluch people. When protests erupted following Mahsa Amini's death, he saw an opportunity for all of Iran's oppressed communities to unite for freedom.
